Sarah finished our list today bringing our number for December to a very nice 930.
We start new in January :)

Faster than a speeding bullet

Sarah Morrison is working her last few hours and to give her a break from weeding I asked if she'd like to do some Author Alert. 202 holds later our total is 615. Carrie, I noticed that your plum posting was plum colored. Nice touch!

We Have a New Report!!

Today Nola and I officially received the NEW Author Alert report! This list includes all new books that have come in ONLY by authors on the Author Alert list! It's amazing! It's only 3 pages long!

We may need to make adjustments as we go along...but at least we're now officially in business!

We even printed up a novelty version with really tiny font that fits entirely on one page! Ask Nola to see it! :)

December 11th

From the last cart I have added 1 more hold.

Total now 250.

Cherry Adair

I noticed a Cherry Adair book on the new cart. Thought we had patrons who wanted this author.
I placed 3 holds on Night Shadow. That makes our total 249.

TOTAL - 246

Finally, finally I know...I placed 232 holds and when you add that to the 14 already placed we now have placed 246 holds for this month of December... Pretty good for really a down month.

Harry Turtledove

A couple of rush carts came down today and I printed them so we can be sure we have holds on those titles. A Harry Turtledove title United States of Atlantis came down not rush but I remembered he was on our list so I placed two holds. That brings me up to 14 plus the holds Shawn has placed. How about an update?

LP books and others

When carts come down with LP books I always check the list of LP authors. I don't think these books show up as easily in the list in the white notebook. It's easy to grab the book and place the holds as the carts come down.
There was also a James Grippando book Born to Run that had no holds so I placed those holds.

Whoopeee!!

This is so exciting...I really think AA is a valuable service and it would be nice if we felt like we were really not missing anything. We shall overcome..... I know sometimes we think computers can do anything (magic) but I have faith.... You Go Girls!

The List in the notebook

I started on the list tonight. All of the book listed are by Author Alert authors but not all of them are new. We probably don't need to place holds on the Large Print, I've been doing them as they come down on the carts. Once the list is more timely that may change.
I'm not sure why the last author on the list is a "T" seems like someone later in the alphabet might have written a book???
Anyway check pub dates as you work from this list. We had them but they were on another page and it was too hard to match them up since the pages were shuffled.
It's still a work in progress but I'm thankful for all your help.

Author Alert New Book Lists UPDATE!

Nola and I are still working on getting new book lists of ONLY Author Alert authors so that all we have to do is place those holds (no more browsing through ALL new books received)!

We've tried some experiments and I HOPE that we've finally figured out a way for it to work! I know that Shawn will miss that big white binder full of billions of authors to sort through, but hopefully, in time, she'll learn to love our new short and easy lists just as much! :)

We've matched the author names in our Author Alert list with the EXACT phrasing of their names in Polaris's "browsing" author list...so from now on all new authors added to our Author Alert list will need to be EXACTLY matched to Polaris's records.

For example, SOME authors in Polaris are just straighforward names: "Bender, Aimee."
BUT, SOME authors include birth dates: "Saunders, George, 1958-"

As long as we keep this straight in our Author Alerts database, we should be all good!

I'll update again when the new list has been printed! (keep your fingers crossed!)

Up to Date

It has been a while since I've been up-to-date on all the changes but at 3:54 on 11/25 I'm caught up. I'm not looking in my mailbox today!

In the process I placed 25 more holds bringing our total to 353.

If you are pressed for time just put in the numbers..........let's keep it up to date.

Welcome!

Sometimes it's hard to keep up with which biggg new books we've place holds for. Sometimes there is something to share. I'd like to have this blog help us keep in touch on Author Alert issues since our paths don't always cross.
If we keep our running total of holds for the month on this blog it will be easier for me to update and to access that information when I need to report.

Here's what I did today. New Clive Cussler book came down ARCTIC DRIFT. I placed the holds. (32) Pam White just put in a new Patterson title 8th CONFESSION. I placed 146 holds on it.
Now if I see 8th confession and don't remember placing the holds I can look here to see.
The white notebook had 125 holds listed. I placed 25 yesterday and 178 today.

Our total at this moment is 328
